Cashless repair means your insurer pays the panel workshop directly, so you don’t need to pay the full repair cost upfront.
This option is convenient because it requires minimal upfront payment, speeds up the claim process, and involves less paperwork for the policyholder.
However, cashless repairs are limited to panel workshops approved by the insurer only, which means you have less flexibility in choosing where to repair your vehicle.
Car owners will need to pay the repair bill upfront before submitting the necessary documents to their insurer for reimbursement.
This option gives drivers more freedom to choose their preferred workshop other than the panel workshops available. It can also be useful for minor damages or urgent repairs where immediate action is needed.
However, reimbursement claims usually involve a higher upfront cost since you need to cover the repair costs first. The claim process may also take longer because the insurer needs time to review and verify the submitted documents. In addition, policyholders are required to prepare and submit more paperwork during the reimbursement process.
Claim timelines vary depending on the insurer, repair complexity, and whether liability is disputed. Minor claims such as windscreen repairs or small dents usually can be processed within a few days, while standard accident claims commonly take around 2–4 weeks. More complex cases can take longer depending on the investigation required.
If you rely on your car for daily commute, cashless repair is usually the better choice.
The type of damage or incident does not automatically affect your No Claim Discount (NCD). What matters is the type of insurance claim being made. Different claims are treated differently by insurers. Some will impact your NCD, while others will not.
For example, an at-fault claim made under your own comprehensive policy will result in NCD reset at the next renewal. On the other hand, a windscreen claim made under a separate windscreen coverage add-on generally does not affect your NCD.
Because claim policies and coverage terms vary between insurers, it is always advisable to confirm with your insurer before proceeding with any claim. This can help you understand the potential impact on your NCD and avoid unexpected consequences during renewal.
A cashless repair is the better option if your car has major accident damage and repair costs are expected to be high. It is also suitable if you want a faster repair process with less coordination on your side, as the insurer handles payment directly with the panel workshop. Many drivers also prefer cashless repair because they involve less paperwork and fewer upfront payments.
A reimbursement claim may be more suitable for minor repairs where the repair cost is still manageable upfront. It can also be a good choice if you already trust a specific non-panel workshop and prefer to repair your car there first before submitting the claim for reimbursement later.
After making a claim or during renewal, timing can make a big difference to your overall insurance costs. Many drivers reduce their expenses by taking advantage of verified promotions and membership benefits available at the time of renewal.
Some common ways to save include:
Using limited-time payment promotions such as Atome 5% OFF, SPayLater 10% OFF, or Ahapay RM30 OFF (subject to minimum spend requirements and discount caps)
Comparing multiple insurance quotes before renewing
Checking for Drive+ membership perks such as road tax discounts or exclusive renewal benefits, where available
Because promotions and eligibility terms may change from time to time, always verify the latest campaign details before relying on them.

Your NCD is affected by who is at fault and the type of claim, not whether the repair is cashless or reimbursed.
If you are at fault, your NCD will drop to 0% regardless of whether you choose a cashless repair or a reimbursement claim.
If you are not at fault, you can make a third-party claim at a panel workshop to enjoy cashless repair, and your NCD will remain safe at its current percentage.
While the main repair bill is covered directly by the insurer, you may still have to pay the workshop out of pocket for other costs, including compulsory/voluntary excess and betterment costs.
Cashless repair: Once the insurance adjuster approves the repair estimate (usually within 2 to 5 working days), the workshop fixes your car, and you can drive it away immediately upon completion without waiting for money to clear.
Reimbursement claim: After you submit all receipts, police reports, and claim forms to your insurer, it typically takes anywhere from 14 working days to a few months for the insurance company to process, verify, and deposit the reimbursement into your bank account.
